So theres KDE stuff running? how could i get just a nice gnome running? or xfce?

Hi Datura,
I think the process to get a gnome desktop on Mandriva G-Linux is documented in the wiki (I would need to double confirm that), however since there are now a few different systems running on the Gdium, are your referring to running Gnome desktop on Mandriva or on a different OS?
The Debian image for example comes with LXDE, which is a lightweight desktop environment similar to XFCE (in the lightweight department). You might as well try that one.

i didnt look the wiki over that well,,, i am running mandriva 2008.1...
can i change a start up file/script?
